After cleaning from a Security Tool virus, my IE yields no search from either Yahoo or Google
Security Tool eneded up on my computer.
I read through this entire forum, deleted the things that people here suggested (I had several instances of the 8 digit numbers in the App Data Folder and in Registry) and then cleaned with Malwarebytes to get what
was left of the beast.
Everything seems to be fine with one exception.
If I try to type in something in a search window of google or yahoo, I get no results back from the search.
Bottom left corner of pane says “Done”.
But, if I type a web address in the top of Internet Explorer
it will go to any website.
I went to Microsoft site and can search using the “Bing” search window and get results.
Now my question, did this thing mess up Internet Explorer? How can I fix this.
I was going to reload IE8 but wanted to get you guys feedback first.
Thanks You all so much for letting us know how to destry the Security Tool

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) when posting in a forum or newsgroup.
Please do so in your next reply.
You may have much more work to do!
NB: If you had no anti-virus application installed or the subscription had expired
when the machine first got infected and/or your subscription has since expired and/or the machine's not been kept fully-patched at Windows Update, don't waste your time with any of the below: Format & reinstall
Windows. A Repair Install will NOT help!

1.
See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
NB: Run the FULL scan, not the QUICK scan! You may need to download the MSRT on a non-infected machine, then transfer MRT.EXE to the infected machine and rename it to SCAN.EXE before running it.
2a.
WinXP => Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be:

2b.
Vista or Win7=> Run this scan instead:

3.
Now run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting requested logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.

Don't Download Malware
Where are you getting the download?
There are malicious people who download valid copies of a popular download, modify the file with malicious software, and then upload the file with the same name. Make sure you are downloading from the developer's web page or a reputable company.
Don't install download manager
Many sites suggest or require you to install an installer or a download manager before allowing you to download a program you may be interested in downloading. These tools almost always cause your computer more problems and may even have malware or other spyware. Avoid any site claiming anything must be installed first before you can continue with your download.
Avoid advertisements on download pages
To help make money and pay for the bandwidth costs of supplying free the software, the final download page may have ads. Watch out for anything that looks like advertisements on the download page. Many advertisers try to trick viewers into clicking an ad with phrases like "Download Now", "Start Download", or "Continue" and that ad may open a separate download.
Cancel or deny any automatic download
Some sites may automatically try start a download or give the appearance that something needs to be installed or updated before the site or video can be seen. Never accept or install anything from any site unless you know what is downloading.
