Cannot find server or DNS Error__Internet Explorer
I was attacked by malware (Trojan.FakeAlert) I rebooted in safemode and ran Malwarebyts which removed the infection.
However now I cannot use IE7 to connect to the internet.
I cannot connect to Microsoft.com or any site apparently using HTTP.
I have added
microsoft to the trusted sites but nothing I seem to do works.
I am running XP sp 3.
I have run the diag.

I have tried resetting defaults under tools but it does not solve the problem.
I can connect to online games with the exception of one game my daughter plays.
which is Shaiya and it will not connect.
I can however connect to all sites using Foxfire.
I am at a loss as to how to correct this I am reluctant to delete foxfire for fear of not being able to connect at all.
Please dumb down any help that you can offer as I am not the brightest bulb in the lamp.

I contacted Microsoft support and by live chat got the problem resolved.
The problem it seems was that proxy server was selected under lan settings.
Once that was disabled IE worked fine. doh!!!
