Amazon KindleGen Program Compatibility
I've been trying to load Amazon's Kindlegen (formatting program to produce Kindle readable files) from the Amazon publising website.
Although it downloads OK, it fails to operate with my Windows 7 OS. All that happens when I give the start command is that a
blue rectangular box filled with writing fashes on and off so quickly I can't read what it says.

You may try installing the program in Windows XP Compatibility mode and check if that fixes the issue.
To install the program in Windows XP Compatibility mode, follow the steps mentioned below:
a. Right click the installation file and select
Properties.
b. Click the Compatibility tab.
c. Under Compatibility mode, check the
Run this program in compatibility mode for: option.
d. Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or
Windows XP (Service Pack 3) from the available options.
e. Click Apply and OK.

- Access the files on your computer via MY COMPUTER
- Under the C: drive, access the WINDOWS folder
- Select the SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION folder, followed by the DOWNLOAD folder.
- Delete any files within this download folder.
- If you are unable to delete these files, open the command prompt (CMD) as the administrator, and type "net stop wuauserv" into the CMD prompt window. Press ENTER. This should allow you to delete the files from step 4.
- Once the files are deleted, open and run the CMD as the administrator and type "wuauclt.exe /updatenow". Press ENTER.
