How Can I Fix - Disk read error after reinstalling xp?

I've seen similar posts but with no solutions to this.
Hope you can help.
I upgraded my laptop drive and installed XP using the recovery disk.
Formatted to NTFS ok.
The install was flawless.
After rebooting I got a 'disk read error' message.
Rebooting
gives the same message.
Thinking I had a drive issue I used the Western Digital disk app to check the drive and it was 100% OK.
I used the app to low format the drive (write all ones to the disk) and then rechecked it with the WD app.
All tested OK.
I then
used the XP reinstall disk to format to ntfs and reinstall the os.
I got the same flawless install and same error at the end.
I repeated 2 more times trying quick format, slow format, etc.
with always the same error.
The disk reads flawlessly using a number
of different apps until I reinstall the OS.
The laptop works fine with the old drive.

my laptop is hp probook 4530s core i3.
4gb ram
300gb hard
since i have updated my pc to windows 8.1, i am facing this issue.
my computer hangs now and then.
take a lot of time to start.
when i opened task manager i saw disk utilization is contantly 100%.
even vlc hangs while playing videos.
i have tried some of the things to resolve this issue but nothing helped
1.
i have run ccleaner and deleted my data
2.i have run laptop in cleanboot mode
3; deleted my antivirus
4; disabled BITS in local services.
5; updated all my drivers
what should i do ????? i has been very irritating.
kindly help me out.

This issue could have occurred due to these reasons.
1.
Conflict between third party applications.
2.
Virus.

I would suggest you to install all the available Windows Update including Optional Updates and check if it helps.
If the issue persists, try the steps listed here and check if it helps.

I would suggest you to run System Maintenance troubleshooter and check if it helps.
a) Press Windows key + W on the keyboard.
b) Type Troubleshooter then click on Settings under the Search field.
c) In Settings click on Find and Fix Problems.

Method 2:
If the issue persists, I would suggest you to boot the computer to Safe Mode and check if the issue occurs or not.

Hi,

This is my first ever question on Microsoft Answers.

I have developed a web application.
One of the web page requires to download the custom activex on client machine.
This activex is developed by us and marked as safe for download.
Since it is a activex dll we are packaging it in cab file which should deploy the activex on client machine.
The packaging in done using the guidlines given in msdn (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa751974(VS.85).aspx)

To test the download of activex we have used a test certificate(by Root Agency).
Now since this test certificate is not default comes with IE we need to install it on testing XP machines which works fine and download the cab.

Now when we try to test it with Vista, Vista first asking for verification and if we click to install IE crashes.
The application log shows following error:
Faulting application IEXPLORE.EXE, version 8.0.6001.18865, time stamp 0x4b077416, faulting module MyActivex.dll, version 1.x.x.x, time stamp 0x4afabb9c, exception code 0xc000000d, fault offset 0x0002d39d, process id 0x2c4, application start time 0x01ca8e01dcc1e525.
I have tried every possible thing.
Added my application under trusted site.
Lower the security.
Allowed Activex and scripts to run.
But nothing seems to be working for me.

Any help is appreciated.

Print Preview screen is completely blank. However, I do have a document in normal view. Attempts to print or convert the file end up as blank pages. Is the problem with printer settings or Word settings? Other saved documents are previewing and printing
normally. While trying to deal with a font problem, I may have unintentionally changed some options in both Word and in my Printer Software. Is it just easier to return to older default options and how do I do that?

This document is basically a large jpg file that covers the entire page.
There are four text-art boxes laying on top of it. Initially, I was seeing everything correctly on my print preview. When converted to a .pdf format, I lost my chosen fonts.
Not knowing exactly what to do, I made some option changes in both word and print files just to see what would happen. The end result is that my file is there, but not really there. I am somewhat of novice at this and you do appear to be an expert with troubleshooting.
As dumb as it sounds, can you tell me "exactly" what menu changes I need to check to unhide things. I have spent at least 5 hours on it already. I was told by Vistaprint (on-line publisher who will be printing this as a poster once I convert it to .pdf)
that I need to "flatten" it to save the fonts. I have no idea what that means, but assume it has something to do with getting everything on one layer. I don't have Photoshop. Someone else told me that I needed to embed the fonts - which is what I was trying
to figure out when everything decided to play hide & seek. If you have time, possibly you could tell me which menus to look at and HOW to keep my fonts for .pdf conversion. I remain in awe of anyone who knows more than I do. I have finished some nice projects,
I just don't know why they worked the way they did.
